Combi QuickLay technique

Definition:

Forward or reverse laid delivery line connected to a gated wye/breech then connected to reverse or forward laid attack lines.

Equipment:
  • Pre-connected delivery lines and/or
  • Big Lay Pack
  • Gated wye/breech (One in to two attack lines out),
  • Attack Pack
  • Lay Packs (as required)

The Combination of a larger hose and extra equipment

In the name "Combi QuickLay", Combi refers to:

  • The combination of hose lay direction (forward and reverse).
  • The combination of hose diameters - 1 large into 2 attack lines.

On arrival fire crews can very quickly assess:

  • The location to the entry point to the fire effected area
  • The size of the fire and what is required in the initial attack
  • The distance from the water supply to the entry point

If the entry point is obvious, requires two attack line and is more than a hose length from the water supply then the Combi QuickLay method can be executed almost as quickly as the distance can be covered by the fire fighters.

If the entry point to the fire effected area is not obvious but there's large volumes of smoke showing i.e a water front property, a factory or a house down a long driveway then the fire attack crew can carry their Lay and Attack Packs towards the smoke, find the entry point then reverse lay their Lay Pack to the forward laid larger delivery line.

Note: This process does involve covering the distance twice however it's easier to deploy hose once properly to the correct location.

The decision to forward or reverse lay the attack line is based whether or not the exact location of the fire is known.

The second and subsequent arriving crews can now immediately get to work from the second outlet of the gated wye/breech.

  • Supply = a pressurised water source
  • Delivery = to deliver water to fire fighters
  • Preconnected Flake = hose stowed loose in trays or beds
